Slightly OT, but how does one usually check information against TIMATIC without working in the aviation industry?

It is true that an airline allowing you to fly somewhere doesn't mean that immigration will let you in. However, I have known embassy information to be incorrect as well. Also, even a visa granted by said embassy doesn't guarantee you admittance. For a number of countries, it is at the discretion of the immigration team at your port of entry.

Although it's a truism to say that an airline transporting you somewhere doesn't guarantee you admission, I personally would rely in TIMATIC more so than information posted by the country's embassy on the web. Why? TIMATIC is what the airlines themselves use when deciding if a passenger's documents are in order for their destination. The whole purpose of TIMATIC is to have a single point of reference that's always up to date so that airlines can avoid transporting passengers in situations where they are likely to be denied entry, and thus likely cause the airline to pay a stiff fine and pay for the return transport of the passenger. The webmaster of a particular embassy or consulate has much less incentive to keep the information up to date if there are changes. There have been several documented cases here on FT where TIMATIC has the correct information and the "official" website did not.
