lets hear a show of hands. how many open bins have you seen, and how many flight have you bin on? i am not a real ff, but bin around for a long time. i have seen ZERO open bins in about 2000 flights. i have seen:

some crazy crib/bassenet thing on BA planes where the mother stood on the arm of the seat, and put an infant in an overhead crib in front of the luggage bins

netting rather than bins on planes to central and south america. most of the passengers took advantage to store their "pets" up there.......chickens. realy, chickens.

once, an LH pilot missed the ground by about 3 feet and pounded the plane into the runway. all the overhead tv's and that opened most of the bins.

Back in the day, all the bins were 'open' -

Of course what was up there were hat boxes and briefcases - Not steamer trunks full of liquor bottles.

To me it appears the OP is out to get the FA for how she spoke to him when he tried to close the bin, not so much the fact it was just left open. Just using this an excuse to get back at the FA.

This is pretty cut and dry, folks. The bin should have been closed. It was a serious safety hazard. And, yes, OP should report this to UA and to the FAA.

Seriously, it isn't that difficult.

Sounds to me like there was an issue with both. Can't say I blame the OP.
