Money Transfer Help?

First, may I start by giving a review of Xoom Customer service

OK

With that out of the way.

Other than xoom or western union is there any online money transfer company that I can set up to set up a regular monthly transfer of money to myself to Central America from my US bank or with my US credit card??? I no longer wish to use ATM's there.

Have you looked into XE.com? I use their xe trade service frequently to move money from my US to EU bank accounts and the reverse - edit to add: requires a bank account in both places...

I have looked into xe but do no have a bank account in the receiving country myself and would love to have an option where I do not have to depend on anyone but myself......

I would love to find some way to send money from myself (from the USA) to myself (while outside the USA)

Ask your bank if they partner with any banks to be found in your destination.

Ah sorry about that...the bank partnership suggestion is a good one, as are some banks that have products intended for people in multiple countries (though the ones I've looked into have a fairly significant deposit requirement)

Does anyone know how competitive xe.com is? My partner has to tranfer funds to Colombia on a monthly basis to pay a mortgage and taxes.... and does have a personal bank account there.

He uses zoom.com but feels like he loses on exchange rate and fees.

I like Paypal, bit you still would need a bank (to transfer your money into ) or the Paypal ATM card.

you can do what you want with an account in a stock brokerage house. etrade, schwab, and fidellity have a product that will work. you will have to get a credit card from the brokerage to make them happiest. money from a credit card available at ????????? is expensive, unless you can direct pay. sounds to me like you have a lot of limiting parameters. by MY bank do you really mean only one particular bank in the world? if so, you will have to work the problem out with them.

i had "partnerships" with about a dozen foreign banks. all were started in that foreign country. some i transfered into, some transfered to me.

I have twice had my ATM card "scimmed" I think they call it in Nicaragua and Mexico and thousands taken and it took over a month to get my money back in both cases. I no longer trust ATMs in Central America.

I really had high hopes for Xoom but they are a no-go
So,
I think I am back to giving my sister my ATM card and having here western union me the money as needed. Luckily to that area of the world it is only $10 to send $1000 so doesn't break the bank, the biggest obstacle is to get my sister to get off her butt and go to the western union!!

What is the second best way to wire yourself money in an emergency situation (Let's say lost all your cards and travel money) after XOOM? The FlyerGuide Wiki only mentions XOOM. But XOOM seems to require that you have a bank account in the country you travel to which is not always feasible. Any alternative? AMEX Global Assist can wire you money to a bank or post office correct?

Can you not send yourself the money electronically via the Western Union website?

An alternate technique would be to purchase say $1K in Amex traveler's cheques before the trip & leave them at home. E-mail yourself the serial #s & local phone numbers for Amex to a Google/Hotmail/cloud account. If you lose all your cash/credit cards report the cheques lost and schedule a refund to be sent to one of the better hotels in your area. If you had to use this shred the cheques when you return home otherwise just redeposit into your bank.

The US Bank Visa money transfer service is an easy and secure way to send money through your US bank visa check card to other cards issued in USA. You can easily transfer money while traveling or at home.
