Fooled some people, definitely.

Really! Buying a made in USA product from a city in a war torn poor country for pennies, assuming it it to be made in U.S.A. and bragiing about how good a deal one got! Sounds like they deserved it. :D

Vienna, VA
Paris, TX
London-AK, CA, KY, MN, OH, TX, WV, WI
More than a dozen towns/jurisdictions named Paris, more than twenty. named Berlin or Athens and even Delhi's--nearly a dozen in the U.S.
I suppose this would happen in a young country that grew in size rapidly.
There is/are history/legends behind names.

Georgia has Athens, Sparta, Rome, Dublin & Cairo (pronounced Kay-ro) & likely others.

Ninety Six, South Carolina is another goofy one.

I suppose ninety six is not considered obscene but sixty-nine is. :D

It's not really a town, but it is on the map "Idiotville, Oregon"

Wirelessly posted (Samsung Galaxy S: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.6; en-us; SGH-T959V Build/GINGERBREAD) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

The new world has had the luxury of choosing names of their cities and towns. Why in the eorld woyld people choose a name like Idiotville, or Intercourse?

EAR111pt2 Aug 14, 2012 2:11 pm

My bestest buddy from college calls Ninety Six home. Tons of stories on how it was named.
My family is from Rome, Ga, it has none of the majesty of Rome.

I once drove through Marathon, Texas. Before passing through I read that the lay of the land reminded the sea captain who founded the town of Marathon, Greece. I think he had been to sea for way too long.

Here's a couple more:

Conception, Missouri
Fidelity, Missouri
