When will he go through customs? Help please.

Minor point of clarification (though it doesn't really affect the OP's husband): UA operates from both T1 and T4 at LHR. The legacy UA flights, of which SFO-LHR is one, are out of T1 while the legacy CO flights are out of T4. In this case the passenger will re-clear security in T1 and not need to transfer terminals, saving quite a bit of time.

Clearing Customs ??
Hello...my first post
Will be taking my first international flight in August. Will travel from TUL to LHR via AA. At LHR will switch airlines and take BA/BMI to Dublin. Will not have checked bags, but will have a roll-aboard and a back-pack. Will I need to clear customs at LHR before I connect to the flight to Dublin?

On one ticket if he follows flight connections there will be a security check but no customs at LHR.
If he has to go landside then customs will be at LHR.
