Do they have three-point seatbelts for the rear-facing seats? I can't imagine hanging on to your seat only by the lap belt would be all that fun during takeoff and landing when the plane pitches up.

Do you fly forward when you brake in your car? The feeling is not much different.

Yeah but your car comes with a shoulder belt. And a plane moves at 200 miles per hour when it's taking off, not 40.

You car probably goes 0-60 faster than a commercial aircraft. It's not the speed but the rate of acceleration that should be the major factor, and you car probably wins on that one.

I prefer the backward facing seats and choose them every chance. More comfortable for sleeping when lying "flat".

I recall seeing them on AA's Convair 990's in the 1960's, and on US Air's DC-9-50's in the 1970's.
US still had them until the PI merger. No F, but you could play footsie.

I always enjoyed the setup they have on trains in Europe, where you have four seats all facing each other and a table in the middle.

When traveling with three other friends we were able to plan our travels while on the way to the destination. Was the only time we had time to talk since we were constantly going when we reached our destination.

Don't know if I'd enjoy it on an airplane though. Unless I knew everyone in the group.

The backwards facing airline seats are different from those in trains, your not facing the other people.
Search for a picture of United Airlines Business Class on A.net you'll see what I mean.

For me the only time it feels different is during push back. It becomes push front

UA new C does force you to face others across the aisle however

If you're concerned with BUSINESS CLASS

rear-facing seats, on UA, I *do* find it a bit distracting to have in my line of sight across the aisle the eyes of other pax facing forward.

In truth, though, on transpacs we end up sleeping as much as possible, usually even skipping the meal, so seating arrangements become a non-issue.

Interesting observation about flying objects in the cabin as possible consequences to rear-facing passengers during an aborted take-off
YMMV
