Do non-revs pay surcharges?
Back when I worked for an airline, we used to get passes for our own and other airlines. It was a perk of the job.
As I recall, we had to pay a (nominal) service charge, but that was all. Of course, in those days, there were no fuel surcharges, APD, and so on.
I was wondering how it is today. If an employee gets a pass, does s/he have to pay the surcharges and so on, just like paid and award tickets? Given that, historically, airlines have used this perk as a way of attracting talent without having to pay the higher salaries that might normally be required, it would seem that this would take some of the shine off the benefit.
