measuring a box for checked baggage

I know I have math anxiety so maybe this is very clear to others but I want to double check. Delta's policy is-- combined length, width, and height must measure 62 inches -- This means I simply measure the height, width and length of the box--I do not double the result for both sides?

That is correct. You add three numbers together. For comparison, a legal wheeled carryon usually results in a number in the low forties, something like 21 + 13 + 8, of course with some variation.
