Missing bag: Make your prediction.....

Well.. it finally happened .....to me.

Arrived in SYD from LAX via AKL...... One bag -the important one of course - failed to arrive.

Baggage services had no clue.... the airline concerned was actually as helpful as possible calling hither and yon.... establishing said bag apparently never left LAX...

What's the bet?

Already long gone?

Badly misplaced?

Will fly tomorrow? (You optimistic sod you!)

Film at 11.......

(Note: Adequate Travel Insurance cover was taken out for the trip... it will be the hassle/difficulty of replacing the valuable items and the loss of some sentimental-value-only stuff that will hurt the most if it is truly gone...)

When you checked it in, did you see if it was tagged correctly (AKL and SYD)? If so, it will most likely get to you in a few days.

If not, was your name and address on/in it? If so, it will get to you in about a week.

If neither, then it's probably gone for good.

If the bag was tagged correctly my bet is you will get it tomorrow (if there is daily flights on the route).

That was what I was starting to think!

Just received a call from our Customs folks... bag has arrived.. (YAY!)

Why from Customs you ask? Well.. the most valuable item in the bag was a new rifle... Glad that didn't go further astray...

Interesting too that Customs have taken custody of the rifle (I have to send some paperwork up... fair enough, I would have had to hand it over pending that paperwork if it had arrived with me) .....and handed the case back to the airlines for delivery to me...

I thought that obligation might get "lost" with the Customs involvement...

WHEW!!!!!

Funny part was I got the call from Customs.. and in the course of the conversation I suggested baggage Services at that airport were... somewhat clueless*..... only to find the Customs guy was actually there.... and on speakerphone....

Wonder where the case will end up now???

* If you guessed that was a polite version you would be right.....
