Earning No Miles

I'm just putting this out there: I've got two trips this month JFK-SFO, and both are reward tickets. Even though they cost me very little, and I'm in business or first for almost all of them, I keep thinking that I wish I had paid for them to earn miles.

Do you regret taking long trips as mileage awards?

What's the point of getting miles if you don't want to use them? Isn't redeeming for long haul flights usually the best value?

I believe that is the sign of an advanced stage of mileage addiction.

Hah, you're probably right.

As is, I'll sit back in my 6 hour flight in business class and enjoy myself, with only passing thoughts to the mileage that might have been.

I rarely use miles for outright award tickets as I want the EQMs to maintain my status. I normally buy deep discount economy tickets then use the miles to upgrade to business. That way you get the best of both worlds - a cheap flight in business and elite qualifying miles thrown in!

I like to use them for long haul J or F. I used them once for a Y trip to the caribbean and thought what a waste for me. YMMV

Maybe you should ask yourself are you willing to pay C or F for JFK-SFO in the first place ? You know those flights in C or F is not cheap.
