Fun with airport codes & planning trips around them
I've long thought that it would be fun to plan a Round the World (RTW) trip only transiting through airports with IATA codes that could be pronounced to make up words (even if spelled differently than the actual words).
A few examples on the top of my head: SIN for Singapore, HAM for Hamburg, GUM for Guam, MAD for Madrid, BOM for Bombay, etc.
Okay, some would be fun, some mundane, and some dangerous (and that's just the 5 airports listed above). But the point would be to try and perform an activity related to the code that it referred to.
For instance, in Singapore you would have to "sin" and in Hamburg I guess you'd eat "ham" or see how it is made, or buy "gum" in Guam, get "mad" in Madrid, and do something (hopefully not illegal) related to "bombs" in Bombay (maybe farting, dunno; or meeting with police bomb disposal units, etc.).
The trick would be not only to find enough airports with such word-like codes, but to also fly entirely and exclusively between airports with such codes (which becomes more difficult for isolated airports like Guam).
Another game would be to fly around the world in 26 stops, starting at an airport that has a code beginning with "A" and continuing until finishing in the same country or region with an airport beginning with "Z." It's much more difficult than it seems!
As I think up these wacky games, I wonder if anyone has performed a similar task or cares to share insights on how to achieve the above.
Any takers?
