Baggage collection question

Hi,

I am travelling with BA and Qantas from Newcastle-Heathrow-Singapore-Perth, and was wondering at how many of the airports I will be required to collect my checked in luggage, and check in again?

I'm guessing only at Heathrow as I transfer from a BA flight (Terminal 5) to a Qantas flight (Terminal 3), but would be grateful if someone could confirm this for me.

Many thanks
Graham

If your BA and Qantas flights are on the same ticket, BA may even be able to interline the bag with Qantas and send it all the way to Perth without picking it up anywhere. But you'd have to check with the airline.

Unless you have a stopover somewhere you shouldn't see your luggage until Perth.

Let's all hope the OP really DOES see his luggage in Perth!

You probably wouldn't see your bags until you land in Perth. It is only in the United States you have to clear customs and immigration even if your final destination is outside the United States. If you have it all on one ticket you shouldn't worry too much about that. Qantas and BA are both within the same alliance. What you should worry about is that your bags may not make it all the way if you have short connection times. Heathrow is also a well known airport for delayed bags anyway... Hehe.

I have never had a problem interlining cases on major airlines even when they aren't in the same alliance. If they are on separate tickets you will have to ask the checkin operator to interline the bags.

With BA/Qantas I would expect it to be done automatically.
