Question Two way flight with return date uncertain

Hi,
I will travel through South America for a few months from March on. I'll flight from Portugal to Brazil but my return date is uncertain. My idea was to book my flight from Lisbon to Brasil, and then from Brasil to Portugal, but I was wondering if is it possible to book a return flight with date uncertain.

Thank you very much,
Pedro

Hi Pedro,

You can ask your TA to book an OPEN segment for your inbound flight.
Note, that usually higher fares apply for OPEN segments.

Thanks a lot Editescu, I was wondering however that the most unexpensive way to fly was to set the day to return, and then change it as it suits the most.Do you agree?
Do you know if I can do that with several days of diference?

Welcome to Flyertalk, falcao. If a ticket with a set return date is significantly cheaper (cheaper then the change fee that the airline charges) then it might be better to go with a set date and just change it if needed. However, the downside of this method is if you won't know until the last minute when you need to return, the fare difference that you'll have to pay when changing your date might eat up any cost savings that you might have had since last-minute fares tend to be quite high.

Do you have a particular airline that you're planning to fly with? That might help folks give you more specific advice.
