Flex Ticket or Refundable Ticket

To enter the UK under my visa category, it is highly recommended that you have a return ticket. However, the dates for my final exams vary widely and aren't announced until after I arrive in January. Therefore, I need to book a one way ticket from Manchester, UK to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area that is either flexible or fully refundable. Does anyone have any experience in booking tickets like this? I'm wondering if it's possible to book online or if I need to call a specific airline. I need around a 2-3 week flex (leaving roughly anytime between June 10-July 1) or a fully refundable ticket.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to FlyerTalk, benjamindm. There are several threads here on FT regarding having return tickets to enter the UK. Use the search function to find them.

One approach I've seen suggested is to book a fully refundable ticket for MAN-MSP to avoid UK entry issues, continue to look for a better deal once your schedule is finalized and cancel the refundable ticket once you've found the better deal. If having to front that much money for the ticket is a problem you might consider booking a cheap refundable ticket to a destination outside the UK to show your intent to leave the UK at the appropriate time. You can buy a refundable ticket online. Just make sure to select the correct fare class when you are searching for and booking the ticket.

Thank you. Can anyone post the link for the threads that barecky mentioned? I'm having trouble finding them in the search.
