Buy Now or Wait?

Need to book RSW (Ft. Myers) to PVG (Shanghai) for December. Need to use star alliance metal. Best fare I can find on the ITA site has gone up twice in last week. Appreciate advice on whether I should buy now or wait a couple months.

Unfortunately we do not have any better crystal ball than you do. If you buy now and the price goes down you can likely get a voucher (less change fees) for the difference in price.

Bing.com/travel will tell you a "buy now or wait" indication but they aren't always accurate - no one knows what Revenue Management is going to do.

Bing only works on US/Carribean/European flights, and I'm not aware of any other fare predictors. That's a mix of dead and busy travel time, and an uncommon route, so I'm not sure any advice you receive will be very dependable.

When in Dec, early Dec is low season and mid to end of Dec is high.

If the fare you posted is for high Dec holiday travel it is a good price for this year.

Do you know any more site like travel-depart, I checked their site and their fare types are better than the one online. they are closed today I wanted to book a flight with them. I am traveling this december also and I have the same problem with op. I think they are holding back the seats to take advantage.

Personally, I don't think $1629 is that bad of a bad price. I'd buy it...then watch it like a hawk just in case it goes down. I have a feeling it won't go down much though.

If you use star alliance frequently why not buy it now and use something like Yapta.com to track it for you? If the price goes down you get an email and can get a voucher for later use.

I will be able to confirm my travel and actually make the reservation in a few days. Putting the info into Yapta.com is a great idea. Thanks!

Do you guys think it's possible that airlines are just holding out on seats offered right now for december travel? I think it's crazy that the prices are almost double the price considering that it is still 5 months away. Last March my IAH-MNL flight costs less than 1k now it is $1900 for december travel, and that is even before dec 15 and returning after jan 3.
