Google rate conversion messed up big-time!
Hi all,
I just used Google rate conversion to figure out what would be the cost of my Iceland flight that was quoted in Icelandic krona. The conversion gave
96 832 Iceland kronur = 499.072128 U.S. dollars.
So I went on and booked the tickets for this price only to realize (too late) that the conversion rate was WRONG. It was in fact $770 after checking on XE
I guess there is no one to blame but myself for my blind faith in the all mighty Google. User beware.
P.S.
I was hoping my first pots on FlyerTalk would be on a more positive note

That's why i use yahoo converter. It first became aware to me that google currency converter was wrong when the euro was losing big money against the USD. Exchange rate was way too off compared by the amount given by the news!
But usually airline sites let you choose the currency or have at least a currency converter embedded in their site.

When did you do the search on google? The rate is correct right now. Are you sure that you didn't transpose the first two numbers in the ISK price? That comes out much closer to the $500 number you noted.

Now it is indeed fixed. Yesterday Google gave something like 1ISK=0.005USD when I asked for a 1 ISK conversion so it wasn't a mix-up with the typed numbers on my side.
