When BarbiJKM says check in 24 hours ahead of the flight he means EXACTLY 24 hours. I checked in 15 minutes after that and was the last person in Group A for a flight.

Definitely try to check in and print your boarding passes from home before you leave.
Just to be clear: Families refers to young children. I don't think you mentioned it, but if you're boarding with teenagers I don't think you'll qualify.

That is too old to qualify for early boarding - per Southwest policy, special boarding between groups A and B is for parents with children ages 4 and younger.

If, for some reason, you can't check in at the t-24, any human being with internet access can do so for you (and print to pdf, but that isn't necessary).

Well here we are in Vegas. After a horrendously long and horrible qantas flight it was a relief to jump on the south west flight early at 10.25. We were so tired, there was no way we could have driven. The south west flight was half full and well worth the money. I'd recommend it to anyone.
