I've flown trans-oceanic business and first both with and without my laptop. It's great to have it onboard as I can be much more productive than just watching reruns for hours, although that is still an option even if I'm taking my notebook.

If you read the posts on this thread you'll discover that you can travel with your desktop because some of us have done so.

This thread brings back memories of seeing guys lugging around those 29-pound Kaypro "transportable computers" in the mid-1980s:

I've done it before with a SFF desktop on a US domestic flight and I don't think they even asked me about it.

The 20 is tiny next to the 24, plus the 24's screen is thicker. I think the new 21.5" is the largest that'll travel.

But the 20 is already way outsize - exceeding both weight and size restrictions for hand luggage and not fitting in the xray trays terribly happily. I think the reason I got away with it was just the sheer astonishment of everyone who saw me doing it - plus I smiled. I couldn't see why a 24 would be more problematic.

A few times US to UK and back. I had to take the tower out of the suitcase (like a laptop) when it went through the scanner in the US.
