I've flown trans-oceanic business and first both with and without my laptop. It's great to have it onboard as I can be much more productive than just watching reruns for hours, although that is still an option even if I'm taking my notebook.

But the 20 is already way outsize - exceeding both weight and size restrictions for hand luggage and not fitting in the xray trays terribly happily. I think the reason I got away with it was just the sheer astonishment of everyone who saw me doing it - plus I smiled. I couldn't see why a 24 would be more problematic.
