Visa's and the Volcano
Not that it affects me (luckily!), but I was wondering what happens with countries such as the US, which require a visa to enter.
If you were coming up to the end of the stay, and due to the closure of Northern Europe airspace, had to stay on, would there be problems when then leaving the country?
I've had a search around, but can't seem to find any information on it, and am curious.
Any pointers/information from people would be welcomed!

I believe it is common courtesy to allow any distressed or misplaced travellers a humanitarian visa due to certain cirumstances, such as this.
Could be wrong.. but that's what I feel is done.

Thanks guys - I fully agree, but haven't yet seen anything on any official website, that's all.
I'll keep an eye out, and post if I do see something, or if anyone else does, please can they let me know

According to a BBC radio report yesterday, India refused to allow passengers on a plane that landed there to leave the plain ads they didnt have visa's.
Nice to see that a country that has received billions in aid from the rest of the world is incapable of showing humanity and care to victims of a situation beyond their control.

Having recently been to India, this is not a surprise... I had a visa and still felt unwelcome. India would be the last place I'd want to be during this... Khartoum would be better in my experience... as long as one had cash as there are no ATMs and credit cards can't be used in Sudan.

Depends on the situation. At AMS we had/have folks stranded airside, mostly those that don't have a visa to enter the Netherlands. As of yesterday the decision was made this situation might last longer than we'ld all like and it's becoming a problem having folks camp out on the airport for so long. By now authorities are working on getting those without a visa just that; a visa. Waiver them some regulations, making sure things can get arranged quickly and folks can get out of the airport. No major talk yet about those with expiring visas being in the country but it has been hinted those visas will be valid until the situation clears up.

Non-EU national airline crew who fly into the UK are ordinarily permitted to remain 7 days without inspection under a "Section 8 exemption". Our airline has 14 crewmembers currently in the UK and are working closely with UKBA as the first 7 crewmembers will exceed their limits on Tuesday. Due to the UK elections, none of the UKBA people are particularly keen to relax the regulations until they absolutely have to, but its not like they can really deport them either. We shall see on Tuesday I guess.

Best thing to do is check your airline's website - they should have information on it.
And/or contact Thai Immigration to ask them what the situation is

Bit of a problem putting them on the next plane back if there are currently no planes...
However, I think that freight will have the top priority once things get moving again.
