"World Record for RTW" Claim?
Not sure if this belongs here, but I didn't know where else to put it:
In one of the larger Swiss newspapers there is an article about a guy claiming he has set a new world record for an RTW on regular scheduled flights (i.e. no private planes / charters). They nicely scheduled it with the first A380 flight out of Zurich, returning today in a total of 46hrs 30mins.
I think I'm missing the point here because a very quick search for a FRA-FRA RTW with stops in SIN & EWR gets me to 44hrs50, MUC-MUC to 44hrs35 even. All with MCT taken into consideration.
And this is without optimizing start/end point; just taking something I know a 3 leg option is available and which is in comparable geographical location as Zurich
Is this guy just up for publicity? Or what is the catch here?
Article (German only, sorry): Before Travel / After Travel
Patrick
P.S. No, I don't intend to break his "record"

Uh oh, I wonder what you could trigger here....
You are absolutely correct - I also get less than 45 hours FRA-SIN-EWR-FRA, and you know what? I would do it if it wasn't for the fact that I knew someone else (possibly several people) will be thinking the exact same thing now....
Gaining not only Miles, but a Guinness World Record en route, certainly makes mileage running socially considerably more acceptable.

Also doesn't have anyone a Guinness Book around to verify this claim?
Over 40 hours appears like a lot to me. Certainly someone could have attempted it in the days of the Concorde...

Sorry for taking over this thread...
You really ruined my night now - I could do Germany-Asia-US-Germany in just under 39 hours and really want to now...
I am so tempted to just book the flights and submit the attempt, that would be an exciting Weekend.
