Business Class seating..
I want to fly business class to a Washington DC airport in may from Los Angeles and am having trouble deciding which airline to book. Virgin america looks great and I am also considering Air Tran and United. I don't care what food or drinks or even inflight entertainment on board the different airlines. What I care most about is the seat and how much space I will have. When I have flown business before its always been with Alaska Airlines and its been about five years so things may have changed. I preferred sitting in the first row because I did not want anyone reclining in front of me. From reading about this it seems that seat guru and various other sites always recommend sitting in row 2 of the various business clases for more legroom. I have short legs so that is not an issue. At least if I wish to get up and use the bathroom while in row 1 then I don't have to worry about climbing out with a reclining seat in front of me. What do you regular business travelers recommend especially those who travel the above airlines. Thanks!

For seat VX is the best by far. If you can get a 3-cabin UA plane on the route then it is somewhat competitive. If not it is not. AirTran is not competitive at all in that regard.
The bulkhead on VX will let you out from the window if the aisle passenger is reclined without too much trouble.

Welcome to FT. VX wins - they have a consistent product, with a 1990's-style international business class seat but with AVOD. UA just has standard F seats (no footrests, lower pitch, lesser recline.) Don't gamble on getting a 3-class aircraft with UA.
