Checked baggage(and time) when using 2 award tix?

When using two different FF awards tickets to get to an international destination, how does the checked baggage situation work(Do i have to check them twice)? And how much time should I allow for this connection?

For example, say, my itinerary on AA metal takes me from MEM-JFK. Then, once I arrive at JFK, I use a different award ticket using CX metal to get from JFK-HKG. How much time do i need to not miss the CX connection (with it being international)?

Also, will I have to make additional time to go through security again at JFK to get to my CX international gate? If i have checked bags, won't I have to leave the terminal to pick up my bags, only to have to re-check them at JFK, and go through security all over again, since it is on 2 differently booked tickets?

it works just like separate paid tickets....you ask them to check bags all the way to your final destination....should be no prob w/ 2 one world carriers or most any major airline except wn....happens frequently....you need to show both tickets and remember to ask....frequently, when i am checking bags, the agent will ask "is abc your final destination".....good luck...
