If its user isn't traveling, my guess would be that the contents of the box don't matter as long as it's not hazardous, liquid, fragile, etc.
However, the answer could vary from airline to airline, so I'd suggest (a) posting the question in the applicable airline's forum, and (b) asking that airline directly. Even if it's a case of using the information to choose an airline, or a trip that involves more than one airline, there can't be many.
