Carry on items

I know there are some new rules for carry ons but the only thing I can find is for flights from Canada and Europe. I am traveling on AA - LAX to Cabo San Lucas this Saturday and wanted to know if 2 carry on items are still permitted (i.e. 1 carry on bag and 1 personal item). The AA website does not seem to be clear about this. Since this is a short trip I plan on taking a small bag for the overhead bin and my small backpack that I put under the seat.

American has implemented changes only from Europe and Canada. Europe is one carry on, Canada is no carry on bags except items listed on their website:

From Mexico it's still the same as it always was, one carry on and one personal item.
