Your initials as an airport code
Do we have here on FT such a thread?
Have you ever wondered if your initials make up an airport code? Mine is KID (KID) Kristianstad Arpt Kristianstad, SE I guess that's somewhere in Sweden ... been to Stcokholm twice (Stockholm Arlanda Airport - ARN) and drove through Malmo several times on the way to/from Copenhagen but never to Kristianstad. What's yours? |

Darn, looks like I'm staying home. EAW doesn't appear to belong to any airport. Maybe I should go build one and name it after myself. ;)
|
Which convention are you guys using for the order of the initials?
Common sense would be to do for example John William Smith as JWS. HOWEVER, the convention when having a three letter monogram/initials printed is to have first name, last name, middle initial. That would make it JSW. Just saying this so you might get a second chance. For me, TFR is Ramadan. Oops. And TRF is Oslo, Norway. I think I prefer the correct convention method. :D Second question: Have you ever been to those (your) airports? I haven't. Till |
Esmeraldas airport Ecuador, to which I haven't been

Apparently my initials don't correspond to any airport, but my husband's correspond to Jabiru, Australia (an airstrip in Kakadu National Park). We just got back from Australia -- if only we'd known!
|
Not my initials, but along similar vein, we refer to our home as if it has an airport code. We live on Eaglebend Lane and refer to our house as EGB. That is not currently a designated airport code.
Some people name their house, we gave it an airport code :) |
Looks like I'm on my way to Melbourne! ^
According to Wikipedia, Moorabbin (Harry Hawker) Airport (IATA: MBW, ICAO: YMMB) was named "Australian Regional Airport of the Year" for 2006. |
GVA = Geneva, Switzerland
or my maiden name GVL = Gainesville, GA |
Mine is TRS -> Trieste, Italy.

I was actually surprised, I thought that they had to be unique? Granted, neither airport is large enough to get confused with the other... There are also cases where the ICAO code and IATA codes don't match up. Branson, MO is an example (IATA is BKG, ICAO is KBBG). |
RBB - Borba airport Brazil. Now i want to go to Brazil
|
Mine is LKP = (LKP) Lake Placid Airport, NY, US
Hubby is JDP = (JDP) Heliport De Paris, FR |
Doubt I'll ever get to mine: Djambala Airport, Congo.
|
Club Makokola, Malawi
CMK |
Mine is:
(RAD) Road Town Arpt Tortola Westend, Virgin Gorda Regarding the order of the initials in the "monogram" ... it depends upon whether the monogram letters are the same size (same size = first, middle, last) or if the middle is bigger (first, last, middle). |
