SDU And 2016
Now that LCY has demonstrated long-haul services, what about SDU?
SDU is even shorter than LCY (runway length 1508 m in LCY, 1323 m in SDU) and has hotter climate - but not those buildings under approaches.
Where are the Olympic venues compared to SDU and GIG? And shall SDU be upgraded for 2016?
LCY is London City.
SDU is Rio de Janeiro Santos-Dumont airport.
GIG is Rio de Janeiro Galeao airport.

LCY works for longhaul because they have somewhere else to go to fuel up the bird. The service outbound is shorthaul, not longhaul.
Also, most destinations that would be served from RIO are much longer than the LON-NYC distance:

I don't see it happening.
