Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again

I'd love to use this thing, but your download site is DOD blocked for some reason. Do you have an alternate?

cockpitvisit May 15, 2008 1:43 pm

Is rapidshare.com blocked for you too?

grlittle May 16, 2008 7:21 pm

Nice tool. Keep up the good work.

Woohoo! Looks like DOD decided to unblock your download site; should be good to hook now. Thanks.

This app rocks! Thank you, cockpitvisit. Quite apart from the useful side of it (finding out who flies to given airports etc) it's absolutely great for satisfying my idle curiosity, like for example being able to see the entire Star Alliance route network at once, or seeing what the real route maps look like for some big airlines that don't publish them. Nice!!

bug_me_not Jun 23, 2008 3:24 am

Great tool, love it.

Didn't have time to read the whole thread but here's a bug (think)

Airport MWX is shown to be East of Cuba instead of being in Korea.

aktchi Jun 23, 2008 4:16 am

Anybody know of a similar capability, in an application or website, for us Mac owners? :)

Thanks, will be corrected in the next update!

No idea, but I had reports of Mac users being able to run it under VMWare.
The data files are included in plain text format, so if anyone is willing to build a Mac app or a website, they are welcome ;)

Wonderful tool

This is indeed a wonderful tool!
I'm using it to find a route for Global Explorer RTW trip.
In addition to oneworld airlines, it allows flights on all these:
AA AY BA CX EI FJ GF IB JC JL JO KA LA LP MA MX NU QA QF RJ XL 4M
Plus all QF codeshares on 6 different airlines.

The problems I have:
1. QA is not in database of your tool.
2. If I allow codeshares, then ALL codeshares of these airlines pop-up, while I am interested only in QF codeshares, and to limit even more only the QF codeshares on the 6 airlines that are allowed.

I presume that this could be quite popular search patter, so could you help me how to search for these flights? At the moment I use custom pattern with AA AY BA CX EI FJ GF IB JC JL JO KA LA LP MA MX NU QA QF RJ XL 4M.

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback!

Unfortunately, I currently don't have any data for QA.

Will think about it. For now, the only way to determine QF codeshares on these airlines using the progam is by showing route maps of these airlines, hovering with the mouse over individual routes and checking if QF is on the list of codeshares operating this route.

bm196 Aug 30, 2008 1:33 pm

Wonderful tool! Thanks for the effort. Is there any

way to superimpose the state outlines over the route? Trying to use for GPS it's a little hard to map all the states along the route.

cockpitvisit Sep 3, 2008 1:47 pm

This is not possible now, but is planned for future.

zloneill Sep 3, 2008 3:52 pm

Cool-thanks! I could while away hours with this thing!

Update available

An update is now available.

The route maps now reflect September 2008.
New airlines have been added (over 600 airlines now).
Several airport locations corrected.
The list of Star Alliance airlines updated.

cstead Sep 7, 2008 9:47 pm

I just updated to the newest release, and I can't get the map to stay visible. When I load it, the default view is All Airlines, but when I toggle, the graphic of the map goes completely fuzzy. The points and routes are still there, but without the geographic frame of reference, too difficult to use. Anyone else have this problem?

lewinr Sep 8, 2008 7:48 am

the tool is great, and please consider adding a "zoom" capability that does not require a mouse scroll button. I use a notebook (probably like many others on FT) which has not scroll button and although there is a function in the driver to simulate the scroll button, it does not work with the Route Mapper Tool. It would be great if I could just choose a menu item or icon to zoom in/out....

thanks again for your efforts on this...

Did you have the previous version, and did it work properly?
Do I understand correctly that the map appears correctly in the beginning, but then stopped working?
If you slightly drag the map around, does it reappear correctly?
Does the problem remain if you maximize the window?

You can zoom by pressing + and - keys on the keyboard.

I have the previous version and everything looks fine with the default [All Airlines]. As soon as I toggle, the map goes fuzzy, and zooming/dragging does not restore it. Max/min doesn't seem to help either:(

So in other words, the problem existed in the old version too?

Can you try changing the window width by a few pixels to see if it helps?

Other than that, you can try updating your graphics drivers, maybe there is some problem with OpenGL on your PC. I never had this problem reported before.

Absolutely Excellent Tool

I am using your tool on a daily basis and all i can say is "wow". Have you considered accepting help from others "like me" who would like to contribute to development. It seems it is somewhat of a side project for you so far.

Let me know if there's a way I can help.

Do pop up boxes look different on your PC? Or are you talking about something else?

Yeah, the pop-up boxes on my PC have very little contrast, too. :(
Any way to change the colors?

Otherwise, very useful. Thanks.

BDA-LGW shows a carrier ZX, which I think should be Zoom but shows up as Air Georgian.

That having been said, Zoom just filed for bankruptcy and ceased operations.

This is not possible, because some part of the code is shared with a commercial project and thus I am not prepared to release the source code.

Reports of bugs and inaccuracies are welcome.

And I would not be offended in any way if someone develops a better tool using the same or different data ;)

They should usually have black characters on yellow background. If you cannot read them, it must be some problem. If you use the "Find" command to find an airport, does the "found" marker appear in high contrast, or is it difficult to read as well?

Thanks for noticing! I think Zoom was Z4. No idea why ZX appears here and what it stands for, will check for the next data update.

.

The box shown via "Find" appears black on a white background.

The pop-up appears white on a yellow background.

cockpitvisit, many thanks for this useful tool.^ :-:

A tip for users without the middle mouse scroll button: In firefox, just use ctrl + to zoom in.

ralfp Oct 6, 2008 5:28 pm

The program has YNZ in the East Sea/Sea of Japan between Korea & Japan. gc.kls2.com is guilty of this too. I believe it's actually at 33d22N 120d21E (not an aircraft carrier at 35N 130E). :)

improvement needed

Cockpitvisit, many thanks, this is such a life-saver tool!^
Unfortunately, on my laptop PC, the pop-up window showing an airport and the corresponding airlines has text in white over a light background, so it is not legible at all (it is in black over a light background in your screenshot).
Is there a fix?
Regards
DFB

CApreppie Nov 3, 2008 2:08 pm

Great application! Kudos

color, map definition problems

Cockpitvisit,
I think most problems would be resolved if the program was actually installed on a computer as opposed to simply executed.
What do you reckon? Possible?

dfbgn Nov 3, 2008 4:21 pm

color problem

Hi Cockpitvisit,
In case this helps you with the color problem: the cities are green dots, but when I put the cursor on one, they all turn yellow as the pop-up windows appears in white on off-white.
Seems like a display adapter problem (Intel).... I do not have the problem on my desktop (Nvidia)....
I have tried to play with compatibility run modes, to no avail.
I have played with the settings of my graphic card as well, to no avail.
What a pity!
( I also have the problem of the land map disappearing in maximized window mode; only city dots remain...)

Could you please download and try this version:
http://arm.64hosts.com/AirlineRouteMapperTEST1.zip

Unzip it into the folder where you have Airline Route Mapper installed, overwriting the old EXE file.

If the problem remains, try enabling View|Opaque Tooltips and restarting the application.

I also have the problem of the land map disappearing in maximized window mode
If you drag the map around or change the zoom factor, does it reappear?

kaka Nov 4, 2008 2:31 am

i wish i could give a coment on that.. when are you gonna put on a mac version? :) Thanks

cockpitvisit Nov 5, 2008 10:32 am

Maybe there will be a Java version in the future that runs on a mac too, but not very soon.

New update available

I have uploaded a new version today. Changes are:

The route maps have been updated to reflect November 2008.

The types of aircraft used to serve routes are now shown in the tooltip. You can also restrict the display of routes to those only served by specific aircraft type(s).

Option to disable transparency in tooltips added for troubleshooting.

CApreppie Nov 5, 2008 8:51 pm

It is addictive.

caesar04 Nov 10, 2008 7:49 am

Doesn't work maximized

OP, this is a wonderful tool! However, I just put the latest version (1.2.0.0) on my main box at home (Vista x64, Radeon 4850 with Catalyst 8.10 drivers running at 2560x1600 on a 30" screen) and everything works great until I maximize the application. At that point both the sea and the land becomes white, i.e. disappears, all I see is the green dots with black borders in a sea of white. The routes and tooltips display fine. I tried the disable transparent tooltips option and it makes no difference.

Please PM me if you would like me to help you track this bug down.

Caesar

This continues to be a great tool, thanks for the update!

Just as an FYI for your next update, Porter Airlines has its routes and aircraft reflected under its PD code, but the PD code shows a name of "Palau Micronesia Air" rather than Porter.

This is a very handy tool indeed, and I have used it in ernest recently on trips with work.

Thanks for your hard work cockpitvisit in creating it.
