google flights question

I apologize in advance if this is not posted in the correct place.

I've been using Google Flights to search for and track some flights from ORD-FCO in J for next March. In the event that a direct flight is too expensive, I'm ok with doing the TATL in J and the shorter flight in Y. What I haven't been able to figure out so far is how to set the Google Flights search parameters to include this possibility. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Did Google Flights get rid of descriptions of premium class products?

Did Google Flights get rid of descriptions of premium class products? I don't see "lie flat" listed anymore alongside various flights.

Moderators, feel free to move this thread to a different forum, though I think it's highly applicable to this one, the premium fare deals one.

It looks like their integration with Routehappy is down, intentional or otherwise. Routehappy still pulls all of the amenity info, but GF does not.

It's not a deal. End of story.

Yep. I've noticed this myself. Hopefully it's just a temporary glitch.

Google Flights allows flexible destination searches when an origin is specified. Is there any way to do the reverse: a flexible origin search with a specified destination? For instance, I know the city I want to fly to, but am willing to position, and therefore want to scan many departure points to find the cheapest option? (Or any alternative service which allows this? I am a Matrix power user, but I want to scan more origins than that really allows... and I hate that if the query is to complex it will just return partial results with no indication anything went wrong...)

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer - I'd be very interested, too!

As for Matrix, yes, agreed! I often get much better results searching city by city, which is hugely irritating when I should be able to search for ten at a go.

No. Use Skyscanner or Hopper for that, for instance

Google flight does not show seat type anymore?

I used google flight a lot before and it can show seat type that is useful for browsing first class seat for carrier like united/hawaiian which sometimes has lie-flat and sometimes standard recliner.

What happens to google flight? Where can I find same info like this?

It seems like this feature has been removed / dispatched. Might be just temporary though.

Google Flights - Destination by Cuisine?

Anyone else notice this? Seems to be a feature rather than a bug...

There's a Chrome extension that can display this info on your Google flights search results:

Moderator's Note

When to book flights and purchase tickets is a question best answered in the various airlines and/or OTA forums, not in the Google Flights support thread which is the place to seek help in searching for flights and airfares. You may also wish to check out Hopper, an app that perdicts the best time to buy tickets.

A recent message asking when is the best time to book a trip was deleted. Please feel free to post this question in the relevant forum.

Is it just me or is Google Flights down?

I get the following error message:

google flights discount codes

I am a very frugal traveler when it comes to choosing my destination. I use Google Flights and Skyscanner leaving the destination open to find cheap destinations I'm interested in visiting.

I'm signed up with all the airlines email alerts and several of them have the "discount code" you must enter in the search to get the low price. Does google flights account for these discounts? Am I wasting my time using the airline website? Could I see the same fare price by just using Google Flights and Skyscanner?

MODERATOR NOTE: Your query has been moved to the appropriate thread, the master Google flights help thread. Please continue the discussion here.

To respond to your question, I don't know if you are wasting your time on the airline websites. I don't use either airline discount codes or leave a destination open when using Google Flights. Did you try systematically using the discount codes for a dummy booking on Google Flights and seeing if it worked? I may be misreading your question, but it sounds as though you haven't tried for yourself yet. Perhaps you could give a few examples of what is and isn't working for you, and the collective wisdom of posters might be able to get some very specific advise.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not having a problem with GF, just trying to figure out how deep their search goes. I'll try to state my question better.

I received and email from Frontier advertising a "today only" sale -"Save 99% one way" on specific days and destinations. The email provides a promo code "SAVE99" to use when booking the flight on Frontiers website. Obviously these discounted flights will be very cheap. My problem is that the discount only applies to specific days and destinations that are not revealed. You would have to search for random flights on Frontier until you thought you found the cheap flights.

My question - Is GF aware of these promotions? Does GF incorporate promo codes like this when searching? It would be extremely useful if it did. Since the airline sites don't have a map search it is hard to find the cheap destinations. Thats why I use GF, SkyScanner, etc. Should I be investing hours of searching on the Frontier website when these sales are offered? Or is GF doing it for me?

Or is there a place to input airline promo codes in GF?

youranut Nov 13, 2017 9:01 am

Anybody out there?

Updated Google Flights in Beta

Not specific to BA, but as a lot of us use this in tandem with ITA. Google Flights seems to have launched a new beta.
You can access it by selecting the "Try Now" button on the right hand side.

Features (work in progress):
  • Origin and Destination airport limitation lifted from 5 to 7
  • Improved routing results (seems to now more closely match ITA)
  • New UI (more Google-ie)

Don't like the UI. Can't see the advantage over the old UI...

Deltus Nov 21, 2017 8:54 am

I can't see any loss of functionality at least. It's suffered the same fate as BA.com in terms of filling up screen space with useless white space, but as far as I can tell everything still works...

stuart_f Nov 21, 2017 9:23 am

Agree on the useless white space - it may look good on a 'mood board' but it's impractical for the user. Shrinking the page in my browser using 80% zoom helps quite a bit.

Links to book flights via Google Travel seem new. eg Book on Google with KLM

Did the IDR just crash or is it a Google Flights glitch?

I was searching for flights from Indonesia to Europe on Google Flights (with display in USD).
It seems that Google Flights is showing return flights to anywhere around USD 8 in economy, USD 100 in First class...

Seems like a FX glitch on Google Flights. Any way to book at that price?

Here is an example of a Bali to SFO for USD 50 in F...

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...3d1df8a215.png

WorldLux Nov 22, 2017 8:26 am

It has devalued further but certainly not crashed. And since you'll be paying in IDR when being redirected it probably doesn't make a difference.

The GF exchange rate is off by a multiple ~1,000. 100,000,000 IDR suddenly become 61£

These links have been around for a little while now. Presumably, now that Google is phasing out the QPX express API in order to prioritize booking through Google Flights, they will transition to a system that will make all results shown have at least one configuration bookable with Google Flights directly, except perhaps for some airlines which have price display or other issues (Southwest comes to mind). This is an unfortunate but predictable trend. One worries if Google might next take action designed to counter the effectiveness of the ITA Matrix script or Bookwithmatrix.com, which would be even more problematic.

Regarding functionality, I did notice one annoying change, which is that if there is a result that can only be booked by calling the airline, it no longer displays the flight numbers that you should quote to the booking agent in order to find the correct configuration and price. This feature is particularly useful when codeshare flights are involved, because often differences in operating or marketing carrier can change the cost of the fare drastically.

LufthansaFlyer Nov 23, 2017 12:24 pm

I'm not seeing any weird pricing when recreating your search. fares look normal.

wco81 Jan 22, 2018 1:44 pm

Anyone notice the GF seems to randomly drop some of the flights you're tracking?

I was at 55, added some and now it's showing only 47.

Is Google Flights being Blocked from Showing SkyTeam Fares?

Hey Everyone,

While partaking in my favourite past time (hunting for low cost fares to do milage runs) I started to notice a pattern - any Delta itinerary I put together I was greeted with the following:

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...44c8a0f656.png

Any idea what's going on here? This seems to happen across the board for Delta and in many cases for SkyTeam partners like KLM and AF and has been happening for the past 2-3 days.

Safe Travels,

James

croberts134 Jan 28, 2018 4:22 pm

Apologies for the long post and this is my just guess so I could be wrong but...

I don't think it's SkyTeam limiting Google, but rather something fundamental has changed in the way Google Flights displays pricing and it's causing problems.

I have been getting the "Book with a travel agent" messaging across carriers (AA, B6, and DL off the top my head) and across different itineraries.

I believe Google Flights gets its pricing data directly from ATPCO (the industry clearinghouse for fares) and it does not know how to interpret the wide range of things that are possible to code for restrictions. When it runs into something it doesn't know how to handle, it throws up the "Book with a travel agent" message and a price that is probably not legal (from a rules perspective) to sell, but exists and can be sold on other dates or flights or whatnot.

Why does it say "Book with travel agent"? Well, I think it's a bit cheeky. A travel agent could sell this fare by force pricing it in the GDS. However, they will 99.9999% get a debit memo from DL and so it's not worth doing it.

If you are seeing it across DL, AF, and KL and widespread lately, the JV may have changed the way it did some of their fare rules coding, which is causing Google Flights widespread problems (likely something in a General Rule to be technical).

says it can use AI to know if you will have a flight delay before the airlines do.

Really don't like Google Flights new UI look and feel

I don't know that any really different functionality is available in Google Flights' new UI, but I really don't like it compared to the old look. Lots of cluttering boxes and heavy borders and junk. Anyone else feel the same?

Old look:
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...9dd709df88.png

New look:

rustykettel Feb 26, 2018 10:41 am

Yes. Current Web UI design is utter garbage these days.

Great_circle Feb 26, 2018 11:09 am

The new UI used to have the option (end of page) to switch to the old UI but that seems to be no longer the case..
