Introducing WhereToCredit.com
Some friends and I have always had a problem figuring out where the best place to credit certain flights have been. After United's devaluation, that is especially true now for many of us. I made a platform for us to enter mileage accrual for different airlines, and figured I'd share it with the community so everybody can help and everybody can benefit.
http://www.wheretocredit.com To quickly check any airline's fare code: Code:
http://www.wheretocredit.com/[2-letter-airline-code] |
Awesome site! Unfortunately, I don't see a way to enter revenue based earnings for airlines like DL and UA yet - I was going to add the DL chart for you, but didn't see a way to do it. Is that in the plans?
|
Also, a way to add 500 mile minimums would be helpful.
|
I'm also having trouble adding a new chart. I filled out the full DL-on-AS chart and tried to save it, but got an error when submitting. I even tried removing all the comments, dates and the URL, leaving just the numbers for earning and the airline names - no dice. :( Might want to check the logs?

I think I found and fixed it. If you still have the page open, you should be able to just re-save without having to retype everything. Thanks again, and feel free to report bugs in this thread or by PM. |

wheretocredit.com should now have more or less the complete Star Alliance mileage earning charts (minus NZ). However, a quick look through seems like a some of the data points aren't 100% accurate. Anyways, it should give you a pretty good starting point and also a link to each chart to verify any info. If you find any mistakes, feel free to fix it for the rest of us :) Thanks and enjoy!

Did I miss it? no Delta in the dropdown?
I'm testing where to credit my cheap Delta V class now, since AS cuts its earning to 50% now (probably still better than Delta Skypesos) |
Really great idea once all the data is included.
For example VA don't have anything listed for crediting to DL |

ETA: After *A, I'll start OW and ST. Not sure which first since I don't fly either, but I'm happy to take requests here. |
Cool site, thanks for posting!
|
Happy to report that crediting to SkyTeam is finished! I'm pretty happy with the results this time. :D
Up next, OW and maybe some unaffiliated airlines. Then I'll go back and fix up *A last. |
some improvements
Nice site, the idea is pretty good, while checking I'm thinking of 2 improvements
1) allow sorting function that shows highest earning % first 2) allow user accounts where people add their frequent flyer card + status, so the list can be limited to relevant credit % |

Thanks for the great ideas! I can add the sorting pretty quickly, but accounts/custom views will probably not happen until I finish inputting all the data in. I'll keep everybody updated here
i.e.: http://www.wheretocredit.com/turkish-airlines/p |
Would be cool if after choosing airline and class the result would be displayed immediately without having to push the "show me!" button :)

Thx! Let us know in case we can help. Just played around with some TK flights and realized that there is no m&m or aeroplan...

Just a quick update. All OneWorld airline programs have been complete :D We should have all 3 major alliances completed now (yay!)
There are a few alliance programs I couldn't add because they either don't provide award charts or I couldn't find them:
Next, I plan to add the following "major" independent programs (in no particular order):
I'll also start adding some of those features you guys are asking for |
Thanks for the great work!!
|
Cool site! Will it eventually include non alliances like the AS partnerships?

AS should be added (let me know if I'm missing anybody) I also finished with EK, EY and VA. I'll make sure the bigger non-alliance programs in the list above are added, but feel free to request ones I don't have listed. |
The SAS earning table for United is showing 200% for P but it has now changed to 100%.
Thanks for a great site! |
Great work!
Thanks. |

Changes on SQ
SQ changes some of their mileage accrual classes as of Jul, 1st.
For example; AC-K Class earn 50% instead of 100%. KrisFlyer mileage accrual chart |
IAkH,
I want to give a suggestion for displaying table. Is it possible to add IATA Code of airlines to this view ? |

First of all, congratulations for this superb tool you made available for us. ^^^ Indeed checking where to credit miles for a specific flight was at many times something not only boring, but also time consuming. I'm a FF from Brazil, and although I don't use TAM nowadays (I hate them to the heart), I can help you filling up their information. Even in the Portuguese website, this information is well hidden into their Terms and Conditions. |

Big(gish) updates today. Added a few new features including:
Sorting was a big thing people requested, so hopefully this will work for those that needed it. Not 100% on Google translate yet, since sometimes it comes out pretty comical. But I figured it's better than nothing and you can keep it in English if you prefer it. Only users with non-English regions will see this option. I'm hoping the report button will help keep out stale info, so feel free to report anything you notice that's outdated. Thanks again for all the great feedback and ideas. Keep them coming |

I like how you constantly add features to the website :)
I is an amazing time savier to decide where to credit miles in comparison to the usual process of checking airline pages for minutes and calculating miles manually. :) Another suggestion: what about entering 2 destinations and automatic mile calculation based on the FFPs' multipliers? :) |
Is there a REST/JSON API for this, or a way to export the data? Amazing work!
I had a similar idea that I started work on, but never got to releasing it :) It had a mileage calculator too between two cities that would determine the total EQM/RDM for a given city pair, airline, and booking code -- if you'd like the code and data for that I'd love to help out. |

I'm trying to find a good source for airports as well. I have an airport database compiled from openflights, etc. but it's leaves a lot to be desired. I'm trying to avoid having to maintain both earning tables and airports as well - surprisingly challenging. It'd be great if gcmaps had an API, but I couldn't find one. It'll eventually get there. |

Thanks! I think somebody had already mentioned it, and its on my to-do list ;)
I'm considering turning this into a web app with a REST back-end powering it. Since I'm using a free server, I hope that it'll lower my bandwidth usage significantly. The only thing holding me off is I'm a little behind on my SEO best practices and I'm not sure if Google will be able to index client-side rendering (any ideas?). I'm trying to find a good source for airports as well. I have an airport database compiled from openflights, etc. but it's leaves a lot to be desired. Yeah, I went with OpenFlights for my data and it was pretty limited -- I compiled a few Mongo docs / JSON with some data from it: https://github.com/Jamil/metal/tree/master/data/json (ignore fare_class.json -- it was an experiment and I failed where you succeeded :P). I love the idea of crowdsourcing the data, which works really effectively especially with a helpful and active community like FT :) With regard to bandwidth, I'd suggest using an Amazon EC2 instance, which is part of the phenomenal Amazon Web Services (AWS). It's basically like your own personal server, with unlimited bandwidth -- the least powerful instance (still plenty to serve a web app) is free for a year, and something like $30/yr afterwards. They're offering free credit of $100 too, just PM me and I'll send you the link (and if you just want to chat some more about the web app!) EDIT: One thing I did get done on my API was the mileage distance calculator. OpenFlights did have enough information for that….just need the lat/long and then use the Haversine formula. Try, say, http://crosswind.io/api/distance?airports=YYZ,MIA,PTY |
Thanks to IAkH for this very useful tool and, especially, being very quick with updates!
This is such a time-saver, I'm pretty surprised a site like ExpertFlyer hadn't done something like that. |
