KVS Tool and CX
New to KVS Diamond and have two basic questions; I apologize if this is the wrong forum.
When searching for Availability on CX I get the following:
F = first, J = business, Y = economy - but what do all the other codes mean? Is A1 a discounted F fare?
Also - when searching for fares, I get something like:
How do you even book these fares, not to mention, how do you figure out class of service they are in?
I've been digesting the KVS knowledgebase but would appreciate some insight.
My goals with KVS are to:
1. Find award travel availability on CX
2. Find good fares
3. Book them
When searching for Availability on CX I get the following:
Code:
[KVS Availability Tool 7.3.5/Diamond - Availability/FS/US] Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Availability --------- ------ ---- -------- ---- -------- --- -- ----------------------------------------------------------- CX 881 LAX 01:05 HKG 07:40 +1 77W F1 A1 J2 C0 D0 I0 W2 R1 E0 Y6 B5 H4 K2 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 CX 885 LAX 12:25 HKG 19:05 +1 77W F1 A1 J2 C1 D1 I0 W3 R3 E2 Y4 B4 H2 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 CX 883 LAX 23:20 HKG 06:00 +2 77W F3 A3 J4 C3 D3 I0 W0 R0 E0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L5 V0 S0 N2 Q0 O7
Also - when searching for fares, I get something like:
Code:
[KVS Availability Tool 7.3.5/Diamond - Fares/PSH/RU] LAX Los Angeles Intl CA US [KLAX] HKG Hong Kong Intl HK [VHHH] R/T 15 Mar 2014 | All Carrier From To Fare Cur AdvanceP Min Max Fare Basis | Travel Period --------- ------ ---- -------- ---- -------- --- --- -------------------------- CX LAX HKG 648 USD *** 180 SXSPCL CX LAX HKG 797 USD *** 180 SWSPCL CX LAX HKG 847 USD *** 180 VLXSPCL 01 Jan-23 May CX LAX HKG 947 USD *** 180 VLWSPCL 01 Jan-23 May CX LAX HKG 996 USD *** 180 LLXSPCL 01 Jan-23 May CX LAX HKG 1096 USD *** 180 LLWSPCL 01 Jan-23 May CX LAX HKG 1146 USD *** 180 MLXSPCL 01 Jan-23 May

Per Cathay's Website:
For your second question, take the first letter of the fare. That is the fare class it is booked in. The letter after it probably has to do with the fare rules - I am not 100% on this so don't be surprised if I am wrong. e.g. "MLXSPCL" -> M-class economy fare. LXSPCL = rule for the fare for booking, cancellation etc.
You can book these by going to Cathay's website and doing the "normal" online booking, using an online travel agent, or using a real-life travel agent.
Hope this helps!
- First Class (150%) : F, A
- Business Class (125%) : J, C, D, I
- Premium Economy (110%) : W, R, E
- Economy Class (100%) : Y, B, H, K, M, L, V
- Economy Class (25%) : S, N, Q
