I have been on the blog for many years as a student, advisor, and enthusiast. However, this is the first time I am coming to you from the industry; I am currently interning at a travel company called Options Away and I would love to tell you about it.

Options Away is a company that was started by Heidi and Rob Brown, who are coming from the financial markets. Their idea was to bring the idea of financial options to airline fares. Options Away sells options to guarantee airline fares over a set period of time. This is so the customer can have extra time to figure out where he is going, when he is going, or with whom he is going.

I know you are all thinking- FARELOCK by United. But the beauty of Options Away is that it offers holds across multiple major carriers. Travelers can hold their flights for 3, 7, 14, and 21 day intervals. We also offer a 24 hour hold on all flights (yeah we know there is a DOT grace period, but other than AA you are required to apply for a refund. The 24 hour holds are only $4 RT and our customers seem willing to pay for this as a convenience charge). The best part? If the fare increases we cover the difference, and if the fare decreases we notify you and offer you the cheaper fare.

Some nifty features of the site include being able to purchase multiple options at once at a discount, being able to purchase options for people and deciding who takes them later, and creating an account that knows all your reservation preferences.
