i used the site to book a upcoming trip in CA. I need a 4 day in LAX, and 5 day in SFO, the site works great, does give me the cheapest i can find online, but curiously, it's all using Dollar. Is there a particular reason or just Dollar happened to have the lowest rate?

If there is availability, then you should get a choice of a number of companies when you search. All of the companies we work with are shown on our homepage. It could be that Dollar was the only one that had cars available at that time. If you want, PM me your Trip ID(s) and I'll double-check.

Like Monitor, I find the site another tool to get the best price. I have booked on AutoSlash many times and almost always cancel when I find something better going directly to the rental company. Yes, AutoSlash does send me updates, but that has rarely made a difference.

On my last trip MCO with drop off at MIA early this month, AutoSlash could only find rentals with a $150.00 drop off fee. The company I went with, SIXT, had no such charge. They are new to the USA, so they may not be attached to AutoSlash yet.

I do keep trying, to see if it will get better, but not yet for me.

When A/ finds the best deal I do give them my business. I have noticed that they are getting better at finding the best price, but I do still shop around. A/ is a great tool and I am sure that they will fine tune their offers as time goes by.^

Hi Bob. Sorry we didn't do a better job for you on your previous rentals. We do now work with SIXT and they have some of the best rates around since they are new. We're booking people in FLL, MIA and MCO (and soon PBI) with them for under $75 a week in some cases.

If you decide to give us another shot, and we can't do better than a rate you've found yourself, PM us here or email at support<at>autoslash.com and mention you are a FT'er and I'll take a look personally to figure out why we're not measuring up. We're not perfect, but getting better all the time. If we can find areas to improve then everyone benefits with lower rates. Thanks!

Ditto. It's saved me money (and time) on every rental. (Not that I rent that much, but I value my time a lot!)

I am a huge fan of AutoSlash. Big savings every time. I especially like the surprise email with price reductions. It's like Christmas morning on my smartphone.

I even did a video about AutoSlash. I learned the hard way not to post a link here, but you can search my site if you care to see it.

Next use: SpringTraining in AZ. AutoSlash - Woo-Hoo!!

Congrats Autoslash on the NYT article! As it happens, I just used the site this very day to book a stunningly cheap rental in CHS for next month. Hope this gets you a lot more traction, and a lot more cooperation from the majors!

Thanks! Oh and that stunningly cheap CHS rental just went down another few dollars. Hopefully more savings are on the way!

Years ago, the author of the NY Times article was an active member on Flyertalk.

The first time I used AS, I received a couple of e mails with price reductions. My LAS rental ultimately went down over $100. :o

My current rental at SFO went down $10, but that was still 15% off the original price.

I was so proud to read the article. ^ Love it when family (FT) gets recognized.

Ron is a great guy. We corresponded on Twitter a few times previously, but we met for the first time this week. I met him at the NY Times office in NYC and we talked for over two hours. I really enjoyed our conversation, and I was impressed at how Ron immersed himself in the topic.

It was actually pretty funny because a few hours after we wrapped up, he got a price drop on an upcoming rental. He thought I has some hand in it, but it just so happened that timing was on our side and rates dropped at the right time. :D

Thanks, that means a lot to us. Truth be told, this thread was the spark that lit the fire that is AutoSlash.

We were careful to secure the appropriate blessings from FT mods and higher-ups at the time (i.e. Randy). We didn't want it to seem like we were trying to commercially promote the site.

What we really wanted was feedback, not traffic early on. We figured if we could design a site that was useful to FT'ers, then the average consumer would lap it up.

What ended up happening was that this thread was picked up by Gary Leff (GLEFF) from View from the Wing blog, and that set off a chain reaction that sent customers streaming in.

The thing was that at that time, *EVERYTHING* was manual. I was searching rates by hand and sending price drop emails out of my personal Gmail account. Looking back, it's hard to believe we made it work.

We've come a long way, but we're only just beginning. Stay tuned, because we have some super exciting stuff on the horizon. Thanks to everyone here who helped make the site a success. FT rocks!
