Screen Orientation questions on the iPod Touch

OK, so I just got the "touch" and I try to make sure the sensor works properly.

(To be honest with you all, I have no clue how the whole thing works and what this sensor exactly does... )

First off, right out of the box (I haven't put any music / movies yet) the page does NOT rotate to landscape view when I go to e-mail, google maps, calendar, contacts, stocks, clock, weather, notes, settings, iPod+Nike. It does rotate with Safari, calculator, you tube (not in the front page) but that will be it, pretty much. Is this normal?

I don't say that I'd need it to rotate, I'm just asking if this is normal trying to avoid embarrassment at the apple store when I attempt to return it for defective...

Thanks to all tech gurus here, I'm much obliged!

Yea that is normal. One of the new features of the 3.0 software that is suppose to be released this summer is that it will add a landscape mode to more applications including Stocks and SMS (not on the iPod touch) and I believe Mail too, at least when you are composing messages.

Thanks! I'm relieved!
