Usb external hdd
I recently bought a small 250 gb hdd and a USB enclosure for traveling, but I have the following problem: I cannot see the drive in My Computer (XP Pro SP2)
It shows up in the device manager and under Disk Management. The device manager tab shows Device type
isk drive Location: 0
I have tried downloading the driver and still no joy
Any ideas?

Have you initialized and formatted the drive? Not all externals come pre-formatted (and if they do you generally want to reformat--every pre-formatted one I've seen was Fat32 instead of NTFS, the latter is more resistant to damage) and if you put the drive in the enclosure yourself it almost certainly is neither initialized nor formatted.
If you go into Disk Manager with an uninitialized drive in the system you will be prompted if you want to initialize it. However, you still have to create a partition on it and format the partition. Until you do so it will show as unallocated in disk manager and you won't be able to find it from My Computer.
