I use my Technics SL1200 M3D with a Stanton Groovemaster needle(not the perfect needle for archiving but it sounds good and relatively flat) and I pre amp it with a Soundcraft Compact 4 mixer (has RIAA input) and then to a Presonus Inspire 1394. FYI the Inspire has a phone preamp in it but is it CRAP
. It's noisy even on all my 12" singles (I'm a DJ by hobby). I am an audio consultant by profession and personally berated them at a tradeshow on it and they agreed that the RIAA preamp stinks. The rest of the unit is great though. I record into Cubase which came with the Inspire then export to .WAV for archive and use Audiograbber with LAME encoder to go to mp3. Finally I normalize the playback volume marker (not reprocessing) with mp3 Gain(freeware). I like to have control over the process if you can't tell.
