I finally gave up on finding the mobile Mac of my dreams and just got an Asus EEE PC (Linux) for traveling. As a Mac person I have never worried about this stuff; what should I install or do to ensure security on wireless networks (this trip, Paris and Frankfurt)? Is VPN a software or hardware option? Help for a non-techie, please!
FOr general browsing, do you really care if people see what sites you're going to? The probability of anyone even looking is fairly low, though.
If you're accessing bank accounts and the like, it'll already be encrypted so you have very little to worry about.

Depends what you're worried about.

Not planning on paying any bills from the road...Probably the most secure transaction will be logging into aa.com. I did that just now and it doesn't appear to be secure (no https, no padlock icon). I don't store cc #s but there is personal information.
Oh, and e-mail...

As for email, what email service are you talking about? Work email? Gmail? Yahoo? What?

Macs are no more secure than Windows or Linux machines in this regard.

have also a look at http://kyps.net
it does not require any special client software on the public computer and lets you log into websites using OTPs...
