GARMIN in India -- quick answer needed
Cousin from India is in london for 48hrs -- wants to know if he can buy a GARMIN in UK to use in India.
Does India even have this technology? Do they have anything like this ?
Need a quick answer as he leaves in 36hrs.

By "technology" do you mean GPS? Or are you talking about maps and such?
GPS works everywhere, and I used my crappy eTrax in India a couple years ago. But it didn't have useful road maps or anything. But the cities were marked and I could always follow my trail back to the car.

)What I'd do (in addition to Googling and visiting sites like http://www.gpsinindia.com) is to visit the sites of the major GPS device vendors in the UK (Garmin, TomTom, ...) and see what maps they offer. The device will work as the sats are global. But without maps that's not too useful for many people (depending on your needs, of course).

I tried google and found it in yahoo answers...gpsinindia...same as the poster above !!!
I did try Garmin but you need maps dowloaded onto the sytem...gps sats place you on the map !!
I did dowload the map thru my N80 and then used the built in GPS but there are street names or anything like that and this was in Dec 2007.

Short answer. If Garmin (or TomTom) has an India map, you're set. You pay for device, plus cost of India map. Device will work without map, but will only give you your coordinates. If you want to translate those to English, or actually want directions, you need the India map. Device + map = success.
