Wii Down Under
I am looking at purchasing a Wii while in Australia this week but not sure if the unit would work in the US. If I purchase, would there be any problems with the machine working on the US system?

You'll have NTSC/PAL video issues potentially, plus you'll need to adapt the power cord. I don't know if the Wii transformer block is 110-240VAC.
There may also be region issues as well with the games - you may end up having to buy all your games there.
FWIW, my Costco had a pallet of Wii this weekend for $369. Their combo included:
* console with 1 control+nunchuk, Wii Sports, etc.
* Wii play with 1 additional controller
* Super Smash Bros
* Gamecube controller

There are 3 region codes for Wii: U (North America), J (Japan), E (Europe). I'm guessing Australia is U but you could Google one of the hundreds of Wii forums and ask.
Or, you could check your local Craigslist and probably find a Wii cheaper than in Australia.

Wirelessly posted (Nokia E61 Wi-Fi 3G GPRS: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Symbian OS; Nokia E61/0633.09.04; 9730) Opera 8.65 [en] UP.Link/6.5.1.3.0)
Current sales have the Wii around A$388...this includes console/sensor bar, controller, nunchuck, Wii Sports.
In Oz the Wii is PAL, the transformer is power agnostic. The video output from the Wii is analogue with composite out of the box. You can buy a Wii Component cable as well for HDTVs, however your display would still need to be able to accept PAL (which many do).
I wouldn't be buying a Wii here (240v/50Hz PAL) if it's ultimately going to end up in 110v/60Hz NTSC country...
