Under the sword of Damocles. . .
I'm migrating ms. birdstrikes laptop to a new desktop using PCmover.
This includes telling it to merge existing applications on both C: and D: drives to a single TB C: RAID drive on the new machine.
For the last hour, time remaining has fluctuated between 4.5 and 5.5 hours.
What do you think I will find when I wake up in the morning? Gentlemen, place your bets!
This is not a fluffy laptop, either.

I've always taken the laborious route of reinstalling. Does any of this PC move software actually work, or does it just migrate the same old problems to the new hardware?

First look at the migration seems to indicate that most of the applications do come up and run, but there is still a lot to look at.
My first choice would have been to re-install from scratch, but it is not my machine

Not unexpectedly, the Cisco VPN client, The realtime component of Symantec AntiVirus, and a print-to-PDF driver failed to transfer.
A handful of applications I told it -not- to transfer still had their desktop shortcuts migrated.
Network printing failed, but that was because I replaced -my- machine last week and did not remember to turn it on.

I'm cautiously optimistic that everything else is working. ^

So -- now that you've had a few days to kick the tires on the migrated box, how well did the migration work overall?

In addition to the above, Perforce failed because I had given the new machine a different name than the old one. Changing the name on the new machine resolved this.
Photoshop CS3 failed to activate on the new machine until it was inactivated on the old machine. Ditto Dreamweaver CS3
XP seems to be behaving itself.
So far I am a happy camper.
