For those considering Monster Cables...
Maybe not exactly travel related, but I'm sure there are some here who get sucked into the false sense of thinking that buying a cable from Monster is worth the extra money (sorry, it's not). Check out this letter Kurt Denke of Blue Jeans Cable sent in response to a Monster Cable cease and desist letter! Really good entertainment!

Edit: Oh, and my next cable order will most definitely come from Blue Jeans Cable. Browsing their site, it seems like they have some good quality stuff for reasonable prices! ^

Digital signals either go through or they don't. Not like analog, which is similar to water in a garden hose- crimp the hose and the analog flow diminishes. So there is usually no point in wasting money buying fancy digital cables; the cheap generics do the same job.

I really love these parts: "Read the patents narrowly, and Monster loses; read them broadly, and Monster loses. You are welcome to point out any error in my reasoning; but I have to say that I will be unreservedly surprised if you are successful in doing so."
"Further, if any of these patents or trademarks has been licensed to any entity, please provide me with copies of the licensing agreements. I assume that Monster Cable International, Ltd., in Bermuda, listed on these patents, is an IP holding company and that Monster Cable's principal US entity pays licensing fees to the Bermuda corporation in order to shift income out of the United States and thereby avoid paying United States federal income tax on those portions of its income; my request for these licensing agreements is specifically intended to include any licensing agreements, including those with closely related or sham entities, within or without the Monster Cable "family," and without regard to whether those licensing agreements are sham transactions for tax shelter purposes only or whether they are bona fide arm's-length transactions."
This will be fun following along with them.

Very true, nevertheless, as a signal, it is still analog. During transmission most digital signal looks more like a sine wave than a square wave. Shorter digital cable is better.

After 5 tests, none could determine which was the Monster 1000 cable or the coat hanger wire. Further, when music was played through the coat hanger wire, we were asked if what we heard sounded good to us. All agreed that what was heard sounded excellent, however, when A-B tests occured, it was impossible to determine which sounded best the majority of the time and which wire was in use.
