Best Laptop & Desktop Webcam?

Hi, I'm the market for both a laptop & desktop webcam and would appreciate your current recommendations.

Criteria for both are:-

Laptop - small size, ease of use / attachment to laptop and picture quality ok for skype calls. Price low-mid.

Desktop - not so concerned about size. Pic quality more important. Price not v important.

Thanks !

I like the logitech ones, but I also got this Philips one that works well, including the built in light.

I bought these on eBay a few months ago from the same seller.

You get three webcams (they clip nicely on the top of an opened laptop, medium quality, but good enough for Skype) and three foldable headsets (good quality). I think all this was only 26 Euros including shipping to Belgium.

This seller also sells a single set, but three were not much more expensive so went for that and gave some sets to others...

Couldn't get it to work with Linux though, but works fine under WinXP.

I've used this cam since 2006 and I have nothing but good things to say about it...

This is the one I have as well, and why I said to go logitech, but at this point it is an outdated product and not worth buying

Resurecting this thread because I need recommendations for a laptop webcam. Stopped by Best Buy and saw the wide array of choices from Logitech, Creative, HP and Microsoft.

I need a cam that will work with my personal laptops (Dell running XP Pro, Compaq running Vista Enterprise and has a built-in mic) and my work laptops (Dell and Sony both running XP Pro). I'm going to take some distance learning courses and they require a webcam for group sessions.

I haven't looked at these things in years...so what's more important--autofocus or 2.0 MP resolution?

I prefer resolution it takes all of 2 seconds to focus, unless you are moving around different distances all the time there is not much need for auto focus.

The logitech quickcam pro for notebooks does both. Why settle? Plus a Carl Zeiss glass lens and you can find it deeply discounted in an OEM package on ebay.

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/we.../3055&cl=us,en

It's basically identical to the Quickcam Pro 9000, except for a different mount, I think. Some reviewers prefer the 9000, even for use on notebooks. The notebook version is fine for me so far.

Try "make offer" with this seller. We settled on $50, after she countered my initial offer, I recountered with $50 and she accepted. Of course, your YMMV with the "make offer" thing. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...2BSI%26otn%3D4

The same seller currently has 4 different auctions with multiples in each one.

It just comes with the camera in the small logitech zippered pouch. No stand, and you download the software. And despite the auction title, it is the notebook version.

Any suggestions for cameras that do not use the Logitech USB drivers? I found out the hard way that the Logitech drivers conflict with the Yamaha DME-N Network Driver, and once installed on a PC, the offending conflict cannot be removed by uninstalling the Logitech drivers, but requires the Windows XP operating system to be re-installed. I have had to do this three times now on three different computers .

I want to be able to video conference, but also need to be able to run the Yamaha DME driver. So I need a reasonable camera other than Logitech.
