WMWifiRouter

Www.wmwifirouter.com is offering a free trial of its beta version of its software by the same name. It allows many Windows Mobile devices to become a virtual router and share your internet connection by wifi. The node uses ad hoc rather than ap mode, but otherwise seems fully functional. As a test, my wifi and I both simultaneously logged on to it this morning and did our normal business. Worked like a charm.

PS: 21st century grammar question. Should the first "w" in "www" be capitalized when it is the first word of a sentence?

This is a nice application, been using it since the .86 version. The .91 offers just about the same functionality as this new release (which I haven't downloaded) but was free. If you can find it (a quick search should yield it) you can all the benefits without any $$

It's a little cheeky that he's going commercial with it, since most of the foundations behind it were done by others in the xda-developer community.

But the current version does do some nice things, especially the DHCP function makes life much easier.

I've been using it for ages to get 3G on my iPhone using my Spring Mogul

My current version, .91 does the DHCP function too.

I don't think there is a price out there though yet, is there?

All I've seen is a EUR5 discount when the final is released. I've thankfully still got the old .cab files here and don't plan to lose them any time soon. Unless the commercial version does something really amazing I'll stick to the free one.

I felt the same way about the pay v. free thing. Question, how, was the free version at connecting multiple devices. With this version, I had no problem beaming a wifi signal through my entire house (apx. 2,400 foot colonial) which I found surprising. I wish the device would emulate an accesspoint rather than an ad hoc connection because a couple of my devices don't like ad hoc.

I have found that anything more than 1 device, at least on my current ROM mogul and previous 700wx, would tend to freeze the device (of course, the 700wx was wifi streaming) but I don't think the EVDO is ready to handle so many streams at once. I can crash any device with a couple of active windows trying to open at once.

Slingbox streaming seems to be fine though, one constant stream at about 700kps.

Vista notebook?

I have a quick question. I am using 0.91 version. It works on XP computers but not on Vista. Any helps?

works with my vista, no problems. Using Bluetooth for connection, and or WIFI to data connection.

The recent ice storm disrupted many Internet connections in Arkansas and I have a client that really needs Internet access. WMWiFiRouter has allowed them access in the meantime. We logged a DD-WRT router onto the cell as a client and then shared the connection throughout the wired network. Speedtest.net shows the AT&T 3G connection is giving downstream of 1.5 mb , 300kb up. Not blinding fast, but adequate.

If you have a WM phone (check their list) and travel with a laptop, this is a great solution.

Make sure you have an unlimited data plan for the phone.
