You're right - JB has stock (Hornsby my local JB has right now) but not accessories. DJs have the drives (Hornsby has 5 or more!).

Just read an article about a hackers competition, and the Macbook Air was hacked in just 2 minutes, thats even worse than a the windows operated computer which lasted a little longer. Ubuntu (Linux) couldn't be cracked by the hackers. Seems there are some serious security flaws with the new Leopard system.

It's important to realize a couple of things:
1. They couldn't hack it with a direct attack, it was a website with malicious code
2. It is BELIEVED that the vulnerability was in Safari, so this could apply to any machine running Safari
3. No computer is every 100% safe, you should always assume that your machine can be hacked and act accordingly....

As Apple gains market share, the issue of security will come to the fore -- With only an 8% market share...

AND, apple has already patched the hole. :-)

Thinking about making a switch also. Any info from those of you who follow Apple more closely about any ETA for updates or next generation MBA? It is usually my luck that I buy something and the next generation comes out shortly thereafter.

Not in the market for a new laptop, and won't be for a while, but I'm still waiting for Apple to redesign the macbook pro. With a user-changeable hard drive. And have a stated 8 hour battery life (because when it's stated 8 hours, it'll be 6).

There are rumours of an October refresh. I am holding off on getting mine replaced under warranty until then :)

I get the kernel task bug and fan on too, but will a genius replace it for this???

Well, so far, the topcase, screen, mainboard, and keyboard have been replaced. Presently, the screws holding it together wont stay screwed in (from it being opened 5-6 times it appears)

I generally find that after awhile they just give up on replacing parts and just replace the unit.

The fact that there is no internal optical drive in the Air was the dealbreaker for me.

In any case, I've gone back to PCs and Vista. :D

I had a week 1 build MB Air that I bought the first day. The next day they replaced it when I noticed that the adhesive around the screen was coming apart.

I have been using the replacement almost non-stop (8-12 hrs per day) since I got it, about 8 months now. I use it to design and help develop several B2B websites for my clients. Running Fireworks and Photoshop on the Mac side, and using Remote Desktop into a couple windows dev servers to run Visual Studio, IIS, etc.

The computer had the kernel_task and core shutdown problems, but ever since I installed coolbook, those problems went away.

I also haven't had the need for an optical drive at all, which really surprised me. All my audio / video content is from the web, ripped from DVDs on our home computer, from my HD camcorder which records directly into H.264 MOV files, or from iTunes / Amazon MP3s.

Ditto.

Hell no.
