Wireless Mouse and Fluorescent Lights
I've used a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 without a problem for several years, but I spent the last week at the Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour in Sydney and the mouse behaved erratically. I presume that the wireless link is infrared, and my theory is that the problems were caused by all the compact fluorescent bulbs in the room.
Anyone with similar experiences?

That mouse communicates with the receiver on the 27.045 MHz and 27.145 MHz radio frequencies (RF), so I doubt fluorescent light would impact it.
It does have a short range (2.5-3 feet), beyond which it gets erratic, and mine doesn't perform well at all on black or very dark surfaces. Every once in a while mine also starts to move in jumps and spurts - I need to pull the receiver and plug it back in.

I use the 3000 and usually replacing the AA battery cures 90% of the problems. Replacing the horizontal surface surface material solves the remainder. I too wish it had a better range.
