Hi Bob.... actually, I can get a new (factory sealed) Dock II for less than $40. Alas, you are right about my display... it is indeed much less bright, and if I dont run the laptop on AC Power its getting a little tough to read even.
As for the replacement... I think I will be trying to get a refurbished T43p sometime early next year.

Aside from possible display/battery age, I think you're on the right track with a refurb T43 over a T60. I upgraded the hard disk in my T41 at home, and added a new battery last year, and for the standard desktop apps I use it performs almost identical to my new work T61. The only app I notice the difference in performance on is Sony Vegas, but assuming your not editing HD video you'll be fine.
