Unlocking my BB Pearl - weird instructions

I'm in Germany and about to unlock my BB Pearl as the old 7100 won't bluetooth with my car stereo and I want my roaming free sim in it instead.

Vodafone just sent me the instructions and for some reason I don't get it.

Here it is:
Using the menu go to Settings Menu -> advanced options and down to SIM Card
Press number 91 followed by the key with (OP)x2 found on the blackberry
Then press number 4
Repeat pressing number 91 then the key with (OP)x2-> followed by the up and down arrow key on the blackberry found on the left bottom key.
Finally press 2 followed by xxxxxxxxxx and then press OK.
Message should display device unlocked.

Here's my question:
What key eactly is the (OP) key? I have absoluty zero idea what they are on about. Even downloaded the manual and found no reference to it.

Help!

/E

I think they mean the actual OP key, as in the letters O and P.

Yup. I worked that one out after trying to call vodafone and constantly being disconnected.

Their instruuctions do not work at all. Found out how to, in the end. Phone is now unlocked an the WorldSim is in.

Now I'm testing the theory that mail may still arrive to it.

Care to share the details of what did work? My sister has one to unlock and I'm not sure T-Mobile will do much more than share the unlock code with us.

Go to settings > Advanced Settings > SIM Card

Then type meppd (you won't see the text) and you will get a screen with the details of the simcard and what is disabled and active

then type mepp2 (again you won't see the text)

you now get a prompt to enter the unlock code in a box. Do, then ok it and it is done.

However - with T-mobile units I think it is mepd and mep2 (a p less).

Google for it. That's what I did.

Did you have to pay for the unlock? If so, how much?

No, usually your provider gives you the code for free after a certain time (90 days for tmobile)

T-mobile will give it to you for free if you've been a customer of theirs for at least 90 days. Call 611 and ask for a the sim un-lock code. They'll put in a request to the appropriate department and they'll either text or e-mail the code and instructions.

You'll want to get the IMEI code of the phone before you call by typing *#06#.

Also, have a "foreign" SIM card handy to test things out. For this, I harass my friends to borrow their AT&T SIM card and make a quick call to some obscure African or South American country.

Vodafone said they were going to charge me for it. They didn't with my old BB 7100 that they unlocked in the store for me. They never asked for the £20 when I was in the store getting the code for the pearl (they e-mailed the code a few days later). It will be interesting to see if it turns up on my bill.
