I am the proud owner of a 17' Mac Book Pro. I have owned the computer for roughly one year.

Without the power source plugged in, the battery only last for 5-10 minutes. Something is definitely wrong.

Help me!

Thanks for the link. Im going to print it and bring it with me to my local Apple store tommorow. I snagged a reservation for the afteroon. I checked my Battery's bundle and it is running the updated software.

Do you regularly calibrate the battery?

Instructions in your manual or on the apple website.

Also, have a look at the apple support pages, in particular the discussions. Use the search function in the forums there. You might find something useful.

I don't think battery calibration is going to be an issue if it only lasts 10 minutes, although it can't hurt.

If that battery update thing hasn't been done on your machine, that is probably the first thing they'll have you do. But you never know. They may decide such a severe issue is not any of those typical problems and just give you a new one. There's also a recall out there that may or may not affect your battery serial number.

If the roughly a year is a little under, you should still be covered under warranty. Battery is a wear part, but if that's all the time you get from it, it should be covered. I'm about 9 months in on mine and was able to get a new battery recently even though mine ran for much longer than yours (but much shorter than it used to in the beginning).

Macs do have a problem eating batteries ... they have for a while, its an unspoken truth that we all bury deep down inside...
The good news is that everytime its happened to me Apple has replaced the battery no questions asked. We've got a MB thats on its 2nd battery and that one is no longer charging... time to get them to send it off I think.
I had a G4 powerbook that did the same thing, it was out of warrenty and they took care of it.

Thank Sony for the majority of the Apple battery problems during the past three or four years... Sony was the outscource for all the big battery recalls for most manufacturer's.

Go to your nearest apple service center and have them run a diagnostics test on it. It may be that thelo gic board is busted. It was on mine when my battery just died.

On the other hand, if you use your Mac Book/Pro on its battery and recharge it a lot, a year is about how long a battery will last on average. I sometime eak out 15-18 months but then it's definately time for a new one. These batteries have a finite and rather surprisingly small number of full cycles.
