DOTD: $400 notebook

If you need a simple notebook with WiFi and Vista then this is a pretty hot deal. Shipping is usually around $20 or you can pick one up at one of their retail stores. Big plus: no rebates involved!

I wonder how slow Vista would be on a Celeron 1.6.. can't believe they're selling a notebook for $400 though!

Its Vista Home, so I'm sure it'll run fine. I just wouldn't expect Aero on it...

512 MB memory. That's a one-lunged machine.

Agreed! more than enough for a linux-box though. can install web and email server on it, don't even need to use the monitor.

512 with Vista home is perfectly usable. It may not be enough for several Office 2007 apps at the same time, but almost everything else will run just fine on it.

In all reality, I paid less than $500 for my Dell about 2 years ago, I even got a free printer with it. That was just going online and ordering it, no special deal.

Yeah, but those days are over with Dell.

I remember buying a desktop with a 24" LCD and a 20" LCD for just under $900, you'd never find Dell doing deals like that any more.

Plus; $500 is still $100 more than this thing, if you are in that kind of budget zone, $100 is a nice savings.
