I can play 1080p from an external firewire drive . My original OEM drive died and now I boot from a faster external drive on that particular mini.
I can also stream 720p content from a network NAS, but occasionally it breaks up...suspect that has more to do with the lack of a GigE card in that mini...
my intel minis play both from a NAS flawlessly

Mplayer plays the 720p no problems, except no sound. VLC doesnt play the video - its choppy.
VLC works fine with 1080i. Is there a way to downconvert the movies to 1080i? Maybe in VLC? or a option in VLC to change this?
