Mrs. JettaTurbo and I are moving from the US to Thailand this summer. I'm considering asking for a Slingbox for my last US birthday for awhile to keep up with my PSU football and House, et al.
If anyone would possibly lend me information to just test his/her Sling, I'd appreciate a brief self-analysis of clarity, etc.
PM me if possible.
Thanks!

Huge Sling fan here. If you have a good upload connection from your PSU host site and a good download speed in Thailand, you'll be happy as a Lion in Happy Valley. It's not perfect, but it is better than any Thai sports bar you will find.

i don't own my sling--so i can't authorize a test, but it is super, and we love it. do need fast speed and someone on the sling box end who is computer literate to fix things, reset as needed. if you're like us, you will love it.

I've had both good and bad experiences with Sling in Asia. I am watching now in Europe and it works fine, even over WiFi. It really depends on your ISP and their level of connectivity. It can also depend on time of day. During peak periods the picture might not be stable due to your neighbors download activity.

If I hook a Sling up to a friend's cable box in the U.S. (I will be living in Europe), can I watch TV at the same time as him? Can we be watching different channels? The TV doesn't have to be on the whole time, does it?
(As you can see, I don't really know how this thing works!)

It's quite usable at 350Kbps. I have a Sling set up in the UK and the max upstream is 384Kbps. It's never videophile quality but it's good enough. I actually find it better for movies and such. Sports move so quickly that the compression codecs can't keep up at low bandwidth.
Have your mother check with the cable co. Likely there're 'premium' options that will give you 512 or even 768Kbps upstream. The small bump makes a HUGE difference. I find the sweet spot to be 768Kbps. Beyond that you see improvements but they diminish in magnitude. If Verizon FIOS is available, that'll give you full 2Mbps bandwidth and it'll be like you're THERE.

I have a friends slingbox which is on Charter Cable in LA and I'm getting over 800Kbps in Europe. I'm watching HBO with a very clear picture.
